Quick lunch with my sister and mother for the celebration of the birthday of my late father (who made me start this blog… after he died).

Did not know about this new restaurant, DeRozario.nl but it was enough of a surprise to write a short message.

Having lunch on a Saturday, which is unique enough was a great surprise, starting with some nibbles and yoghurt avocado mousse quickly joined by a small G&T in a test-tube was a good starter.

Some tender venison with ice cream of red cabbage joined by curry, apple compote, some gels and puree. I think the best dish already, only there was some half warmed banana on the plate as well which just was to strong in flavor and it slightly tipped the balance.

After this a veal “succade”, slowly braised nice piece of meat, very cheap but when cooked well a real treat, strong jus, bit salty but ok, joined with 2 different puree and garnishes, nice dish, but not as strong as the first one.

Finished lunch with a fresh desert of all time classics, chocolate, dark and white with orange / citrus and crumble, refreshing but basic, good but not special. And I had a strong feeling that there were quite a few “bought” not cooked components on this dish… I recognized some of them from when I was working at a famous local wholesale, but still, a strong finish.

Some lunch points:

Food: It is a young chef, he understands the style of modern plating and already delvers great looking paintings on a plate, overall taste and balance is good, but in his case, less is more…. do not place too many elements on 1 plate. And try to keep 1 line over the 3 courses, for me this was Autumn, winter and spring together. 7.7 out of 10

Coziness: Modern style, trendy and new, especially for this town, not so cozy and dark, more open and semi-industrial. 7.8 out of 10

Staff: For me this is what I like, like the Jane Antwerp, open, friendly, first name base communication and a real personal touch, not for the old critics, but good for me. 8.5 out of 10

Price: I am ashamed to tell this, since I was invited I did not know this was with a Groupon deal….Which I hate because they are working below cost price and too many people take advantage out of this…. having paid just like €15,- p.p. this was crazy ! So on that term I just need to give a solid 10 out of 10.

Overall a strong: 8.5 out of 10 ~!
